Transformative renovation and addition of a 1920’s Spanish-Colonial Los Angeles Home creates a highly crafted and light-filled family space.
The intervention to this quintessential Los Angeles Spanish-Colonial home creates a new Family Room and Kitchen with a strong connection to the previously detached Garden and Pool Deck for indoor-outdoor everyday living and entertaining.
A small addition along with reclaiming the original small kitchen, service quarters and other support spaces - originally designed as “back-of-house” – create a new hearth for the home. Modern sensitivities and an updated design approach create special relationships, order and movement that transform the use of the home.
The kitchen creates a skylit linear element that opens onto the pool deck and onto the family room and becomes the hearth of the home. A new breakfast nook extends the kitchen space into the yard creating a garden pavilion.
Dynamic design elements reminiscent of the period are used as transitional moments to create a unifying design that synthetizes the history and character of the home with a contemporary approach to materials, light, flexibility and movement.
